Resumo

This study aimed to identify the strengths and weaknesses of nurses’ performance in pre-hospital emergency care, emphasizing their importance within the continuum of care and rapid response to critical situations. An integrative literature review was conducted, covering publications from 2020 to 2025, retrieved from the SciELO, PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS, and BDENF databases, in Portuguese and English. The inclusion criteria comprised studies addressing nursing practice in the pre-hospital setting, while duplicates and works focused exclusively on other professional categories were excluded. The synthesis of findings highlights the central role of nurses in team coordination, clinical decision-making, and the implementation of care protocols, effectively integrating technical expertise and humanization in care delivery. The main weaknesses identified include work overload, insufficient material resources, and lack of emotional and institutional support. It is concluded that nurses are key professionals in ensuring safety and effectiveness in pre-hospital care, and that strengthening continuing education policies and investment in infrastructure is essential to improving the quality of services.
