People with mental disorders are complex, considering their morbidities and use of medications, which directly influence the pharmacotherapy follow up and self-care. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder responsible for numerous complications and deaths being a serious public health problem. DM associated with some mental disorders causes worsening in quality of life, adherence and disease control, and an increase in hospitalizations and costs, requiring a sum of forces between public health policies, users and multidisciplinary team. The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare the clinical and humanistic profile of two groups: patients with mental health problems and DM and those with DM only, and each group was composed of 40 and 42 patients, respectively. Patient information was collected through structured data collection instruments during interviews with a pharmacist. The information obtained was: socioeconomic, life habits, biochemical and metabolic laboratory tests, knowledge of treatment, adherence, quality of life and satisfaction with the services provided by the pharmacy. The participants of the DM and DM + mental disorders groups presented a good homogeneity, presenting a significant difference in gender parameters, remunerated activity, number of medications used, reported health problems and knowledge of the prescribed pharmacotherapy. In biochemical control, although there was no difference statistically significant, both groups presented values above the recommended levels in fasting glycemia and in glycated hemoglobin, besides the DM group also had mean triglyceride values altered. The assessment of adherence to pharmacological treatment between the groups also showed no difference, but both groups presented medium or low adherence. In the humanistic assessment, there was a difference in the general perception of quality of life between the groups, but the DM group was more satisfied in the physical, psychological and environmental domains. The satisfaction with the services offered by the pharmacy was regular, and the DM + mental disorders group showed greater dissatisfaction. There was no major difference in the parameters studied between the two groups, even with access to health services, consultations and medications, the achievement of the therapeutic goals for the control of diabetes was not achieved.pt_BR
