Eficácia da terapia fotodinâmica no tratamento da acne: uma revisão integrativa da literatura

Abstract

Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory dermatological condition that affects the pilosebaceous follicle and stands out for its high prevalence among adolescents and young adults, which can extend into adulthood. Its multifactorial etiology, combined with the psychosocial impact caused by visible lesions, especially in hot and humid climates, makes its treatment a clinical challenge. Despite the existence of effective topical and systemic therapies, many patients show an unsatisfactory response or resistance to conventional treatments, which drives the search for alternative therapeutic approaches. In this context, Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) has emerged as a promising, safe and minimally invasive option, with mechanisms that involve the selective destruction of sebaceous glands, reduction of bacterial colonization by Cutibacterium acnes and control of inflammation. The aim of this study was to carry out an integrative review of the scientific literature in order to assess the clinical efficacy of PDT in the treatment of acne vulgaris. The methodology consisted of a bibliographic search in scientific databases, with careful selection of relevant studies that address the application of PDT in the management of acne. The results of the review point to consistent clinical benefits with the use of PDT, including a significant reduction in inflammatory lesions, improved skin appearance and greater patient compliance, as well as a lower risk of bacterial resistance. It is therefore concluded that PDT represents an effective therapeutic alternative with a good safety profile, especially for cases refractory to conventional treatments, contributing to the expansion of options in the dermatological care of acne vulgaris.
