The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of L-glutamine and L-glutamic acid on the immunologic system of adult dogs submitted to vaccine challenge. Four types of dog food with increasing amounts of L-glutamine and L-glutamic acid (0, 0.6, 1.2 and 1.8%) were formulated. Brazilian Terrier dogs were allocated in a randomized block experimental design, with four treatments and six repetitions. To evaluate the effect of amino acids, total (IgG-T) and specific (IgG-P) immunoglobulin G for parvovirus were quantified and to verify the cellular immunity, the delayed hypersensitivity skin (DHS) test was used. It was shown a quadratic effect on the IgG-P production that increased to a level of 0.98%. In a similar way, a quadratic effect on the DHS was observed. The use of L-glutamine and L-glutamic acid in extruded foods shows positive effects on the parameters of humoral and cellular immunological response.pt_BR
