This study addresses the role of nurses in the early identification of sepsis in cancer patients. Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide, and patients undergoing treatment, such as chemotherapy, may develop immunosuppression, making them more susceptible to infections. The use of invasive devices, such as catheters, also increases the risk of infections that can progress to sepsis. The research highlights the importance of nurses in routine screening and early identification of sepsis symptoms, allowing for immediate intervention by the multidisciplinary team, contributing to the prevention of organ failure and improving survival rates. Objective: To understand the role of nurses in the early identification of sepsis in adult cancer patients. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review with a time frame from 2019 to 2024. Results: Nurses possess the technical and practical skills for the prevention and efficient treatment of sepsis, resulting in a more satisfactory rate of problem resolution. Conclusion: It is concluded that the nurse plays a fundamental role in the early recognition of sepsis, as well as in the implementation of measures that reduce the exposure of cancer patients to developing a septic condition.
