Mangroves are ecosystems with ecological, social and economic importance that`s suffering intense destruction. The mangrove sediments are rich in organic matter (MO) and the humic substances (HS) found there has important functions. This study aimed to evaluate chemically and compare the biological activity of HS, AH and AF isolated from two mangrove areas located at the Ilha do Lameirão Municipal Ecological Station (EEMIL), considering the human interference degree in each region. The sediments were collected in two specific areas inside the EEMIL, a high anthropogenic interference (Maria Ortiz - MOr) and a low anthropogenic interference (Canal dos Escravos - CE). Analyses were conducted to determine the structural stability degree of MO through the acidity of the humic material. Those analyses were conducted by potentiometric titration. Elemental composition analyses, ratio E4/E6, fluorescence and infrared (IV) intensity were used to determine the MO humification degree. The biological activity of humic materials was performed using tomato and corn seedlings. We also conducted the acidity in solution measurement method to determine a possible association of AH activity on the H +-ATPases activity. The results obtained in this study indicates that MO present in the CE area has greater amount of buffering systems, when compared to MOr area, indicating a higher structural stability of the MO. Higher values of C/N ratio were found in AH (12.5), AF (6.3) and SH (6.4) at MOr area, when compared with AH (11.9), AF (4,5) and SH (6.4) at the CE area. The fluorescence index showed higher values in AH (133.07), AF (100.04) and HS (104.86) at the MOr area and E4/E6 ratio values were also lower in AH (4.1), AF (7.0) and HS (5.8) at the same area. The absorption bands of the IV spectrum showed similarities within humic materials chemical funcionality, however it were clearly difference between areas (CE and MOr) both in AH and SH, AF spectra. All humic materials isolated from EC and MOr led to an increase in number of lateral roots emerged in tomato and corn when compared to the control. The humic materials at CE area showed an increase tendency of biological activity when compared with MOr, with the exception of AH on the biological activity of tomato and AF on the biological activity of corn. We observed a significant increase in the acidity values when added the best dose of CE AH on the culture solution. This study showed there are differences between chemical properties and biological activity evaluated in the different humic materials. It is evident that human activity alters the MO mangrove sediments quality, which might interfere on the survival and development of mangrove forests.pt_BR
