The expansion of the number of mills in the iron ore mining sector in restinga areas on the coast of Espírito Santo (ES) is increasing and may compromise the survival of plants near the polluting source. The first hypothesis of the experiment was that the physiological sensibility of the Schinus terebinthifolius RADDI against iron (Fe) toxicity would attenuate when inoculated with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on acid substrates. Our results showed that the hypothesis of the first study was accepted. Reductions in colonization, dependence and fungal structures were observed in roots submitted to 2 mM ferrous sulfate (FeSO4). The S. terebinthifolius RADDI showed to be highly dependent on the mycorrhization and that when not mycorrhized and exposed to 2 mM FeSO4, they presented leaf tanning. Mycorrhizal seedlings increased growth parameters when submitted to 2 mM FeSO4. The Fe content in the aerial part of mycorrhizal seedlings of the Control treatment and 2 mM FeSO4, were lower when compared to the roots. The physiological parameters were higher when the Control and 2 mM Fe treatments were mycorrhizal. The Fv/Fm ratio of the Control treatments and mycorrhizal 2 mM Fe were above the stress indicators. The second hypothesis of the experiment was that the combined use of silicon (Si) derived from potassium silicate (K2SiO3.H2O) and AMF alleviate the phytotoxicity of Fe in Eucalyptus urograndis at low pH on the substrate. Our results demonstrated that the hypothesis of the present study was accepted. Mycorrhizal E. urograndis (6Fe + 1,5 Si) increased the growth parameters: Dickson Quality Index (DQI), leaf size and stem strengthening and that Claroideoglomus entunicatum can "amplify" the aliveness of the toxic effects of Fe in the roots of host plants. Higher Si levels were found in all mycorrhizal treatments. The treatments (6 Fe + 1,5 Si) mycorrhizal were higher in the contents in the aerial part for N, P, Ca and Mg compared to non-mycorrhizal Control. Non-mycorrhizal E. urograndis seedlings were higher for the SPAD Index (1.5 Si and 6 Fe + 1.5 Si) compared to the control. There were drastic reductions in Fe content in the aerial part (4473.68 mg kg-1), compared to the root system (117.82 mg kg -1) in mycorrhized treatments (6 Fe + 1,5 Si). Similar responses occurred in the aerial part for other metals such as Cu (7.25 mg kg-1), Zn (30.94 mg kg-1), Al (105.29 mg kg-1), Se (3.79 mg kg-1) and Ni (1.29 mg kg-1), when compared to the root system for Cu (16.00 mg kg-1), Zn (130,23 mg kg-1), Al (27,01,67 mg kg-1), Se (20.20 mg kg-1) and Ni (4.54 mg kg-1) in the mycorrhized treatments (6 Fe + 1,5 Si), respectively. Physiological results showed that seedlings of the treatments (6Fe + 1,5 Si) increased A, iWUE, A/Ci, Ci/Ca. A decline in PSII (Fv/Fm) was observed in non-mycorrhized 6mM Fe treatment and in the other non-mycorrhized and mycorrhizal treatments, values above the indicators. In the biochemical phase it increased to A/Ci, indicating improvements in the activity or content of Rubisco. Therefore, the association of Si-FMA in fact constitutes a key model in reducing the negative effects of Fe on eucalyptus seedlings.pt_BR
