Childbirth is a unique physiological process involving intense physical and emotional transformations in a woman's life. The role of the obstetric nurse has proven essential in the humanized management of labor, providing comprehensive, safe, and respectful care. This research aimed to discuss the best practices of obstetric nurses in labor and vaginal delivery, identify the difficulties encountered by obstetric nurses in labor and vaginal delivery, and understand the perceptions of postpartum women regarding the care received from obstetric nurses during labor and vaginal delivery. This is an integrative literature review, conducted in the SciELO, PubMed, and BDENF databases, with publications between 2019 and 2024. The results indicate that the presence of the obstetric nurse favors the reduction of unnecessary interventions, the valuing of the pregnant woman's autonomy, and the strengthening of the maternal bond, promoting a safer and more welcoming environment. It is concluded that the role of this professional is indispensable for the consolidation of humanized practices in childbirth, guaranteeing evidence-based care, respect, and the empowerment of the woman.
